ABOUT ME

2019 GIFF - 39.jpg

Hi, my name is Rob Zickl. I'm a SUNY Geneseo graduate, and after much deliberation (three changes of major), I settled into the Communication major with a concentration in media and journalism. I've also taken a number of film classes and had considered declaring a minor in the subject.

I was born and raised in Batavia, New York, hailed by many (only me) as the New York City of Genesee County. My main short-term goal after receiving my bachelor's degree is to pursue a career in either media production or journalism. I am also an avid sports fan and participant, and have a strong desire to apply my media and communication skills to a career in the sports industry.

My current hobbies include videography and photography, fields which I was introduced to through a media production class I took during the fall 2018 semester at SUNY Geneseo. The class provided me with my first experience in the field, and having enjoyed this class (as well as many subsequent upper division courses) I decided to consider a career in the field. With this in mind, I purchased my own equipment in an attempt to gain more experience and become more serious about media production as a career.

Aside from videography/photography, some other hobbies of mine include playing, watching, and coaching a variety of sports including boxing, mixed martial arts, baseball, football, basketball, and wrestling, watching movies, reading, participating in bar trivia competitions (to surprisingly moderate success), and playing guitar (poorly). I've recently rekindled my childhood interest of sports card collecting as well, considering its currently booming industry. I fully intend for sports to continue to be a prominent part of my life, whether it be covering them, coaching them, or participating in them.

I am also a frequent user of social media. I use Instagram to share my photography, and Twitter to express and observe opinions and ideas, while also using it as a news source and a medium for humor whenever the news may not be so uplifting which, in my experience, is quite often.
